  • 2-3 pounds Sirloin steak - I wouldn't go with a cheaper cut for this recipe. This steak is cooked quick so you need a tender cut. Something cheaper is going to usually be tough and harder to chew. You want tender steak bites! More expensive cuts of steak would be good, like a ribeye or filet...but I'm not sure I would turn that beautiful meat into steak tips.
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce -This sauce is so commonly used on beef and it really brings out the beefy flavor of the sirloin, and tenderizes the beef while it marinates for a bit.
  • ½ teaspoon Garlic powder - To give these steak bites a nice garlic flavor, but not too much. I prefer a powder over a minced garlic so to really seasons it well.
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt - If you use a less course salt, like table salt, you will need half the amount
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper -freshly ground is preferrer
  • 2 tablespoons oil - Any kind of oil will do. I like to use avocado oil for high heat cooking so it doesn't smoke. You could also use vegetable oil or canola oil. I would not recommend butter as it burns really easily.

How to cook steak tips

This section explains how to make this sirloin steak tips recipe, step by step. For a full printable recipe, see therecipe card below.

Step 1 - Use a sharp knife to cut the sirloin steak into 1 to 1.5 inch pieces. You don't have to worry about slicing against the grain or anything like that because we are cutting these into cubes. Transfer the steak to a medium size mixing bowl.

Step 2 - Season the steak with Worcestershire, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Toss with tongs to coat the steak well with the marinade. Let marinade for 15-30 minutes.

Step 3 -Heat a large skillet over high heat. When the skillet is hot, pour in the avocado oil.

The Easiest Steak Tips Recipe • Low Carb with Jennifer (4)

Step 4 - Carefully add the steak tips to the hot skillet. If your skillet is large enough, you may be able to fit all of the meat, but do not crowd the pan. You may need to cook these in batches. Stir the steak every 30 seconds to 1 minute to make sure it is evenly cooked on all sides. Let cook for 4-5 minutes. Remove from the pan with a slotted spoon or tongs to a serving dish. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.

What is the best steak for steak tips?

I like to use 2-3 pounds of whole sirloin steaksand cut them into 1 to 1.5 inch chunks. I wouldn't use anything cheaper as your steak tips will be tough. More expensive cuts of steak would be good, like a ribeye or filet...but I'm not sure I would turn that beautiful meat into steak tips.

Can these be made in an air fryer?

Yes! To make these steak tips in an air fryer:

  • Cut and marinade the steak just as we did above. Pre-heat your air fryer to 400F for 5 minutes. Add the steak to the basket and cook for 4-6 minutes depending on how done you like your steak.
  • Checkout my recipe for air fryer steak bites and mushrooms!

Expert tips

  • Don't over crowd your pan while cooking. This will result in steamed steak instead of giving you steak with a nice brown crust. Brown food tastes good!
  • Letting the steak tips marinade for at least 15 minutes not only ads to the flavor, it ads to the tenderness!
  • Make sure you pan is nice and hot before adding the avocado oil.

Made these tonight with one small change, replaced the fresh garlic wit about a tablespoon of better than bouillon roasted garlic base with the soy & Worcestershire. They were amazing over fluffy rice but would be equally delicious over mashed potatoes or fries.

This was excellent! I looked over several recipes that all had exorbitant amounts of soy sauce and Worcestershire sauce, whereas this one was a realistic amount of the latter. Though I did add a splash of low sodium soy sauce. I marinated at room temp for about 30 minutes. Smoking hot cast iron pan, cooked as directed! Added sliced bell pepper and red onion. Yum! Perfect! Thank you!! 🙂
